Frequently Asked Questions

Why do your appointments last over 60 minutes?
We’ve found that great healthcare starts with great conversations. We schedule longer appointments, typically over an hour, so we can dedicate the time needed to fully understand your health history and listen to your concerns without rushing. This approach allows us to get a complete picture of your health—not just your symptoms—and work with you to create a detailed treatment plan that makes sense for your life and lifestyle.
I have TMJ and hear a clicking or popping sound when I open my mouth, eat, or yawn. What should I do?
TMJ (temporomandibular joint) sounds often indicate a TMJ disorder, where the joint’s disc may be slipping out of place. While common at first, this can lead to wear and permanent changes in the joint over time and can result in needing surgery that may include one of both Joint Replacements. We highly recommend a consultation to assess your condition and guide you toward the best management to prevent further damage.
What is Regenerative Therapy, like PRF injections, and am I a candidate?
PRF injections are a natural treatment that uses the healing power found in your own blood. We take a small amount of your blood and spin it in a special machine to separate the platelets and fibrin. These components are rich in growth factors, which are powerful proteins that help your body heal itself.
This concentrated PRF material is then used to treat your TMJ (temporomandibular joint). By applying this substance to the area, we can kickstart and speed up your body’s natural healing and regeneration processes. This minimally invasive approach has shown great results in reducing patient-reported TMJ pain over time and helping the joint heal.
A comprehensive consultation will help us determine if you are a candidate for this treatment.
Does the PRF procedure hurt? How long does it take?
PRF treatments are considered minimally invasive, and most patients report that the procedure is only slightly uncomfortable, with no major side effects. We start by taking a small amount of blood, just like a standard blood test. This blood is then placed in a special machine that separates the healing components, a process that takes about an hour while you wait comfortably.

Once the PRF is ready, we gently inject it into the TMJ area, which only takes a few minutes. Afterward, we’ll monitor you for a short time and provide you with all the necessary post-procedure instructions before you head home.
Do you offer medications like Botox for grinding, clenching, headaches, or TMJ conditions?
Yes, we do. Many people don’t realize that medications like Botox can be a highly effective, non-surgical option for relieving chronic pain associated with jaw clenching, teeth grinding (bruxism), tension headaches, and TMJ disorders.

When injected into the specific jaw muscles that cause these issues, Botox works by relaxing the muscles and reducing their excessive contractions. This helps to alleviate tension, protect your teeth from grinding, and can significantly reduce the frequency and severity of related headaches and jaw pain.

We will conduct a thorough evaluation of your condition to determine if this is the right treatment for you.
Are my Orofacial Pain, TMJ, or Obstructive Sleep Apnea consultations and treatments covered by insurance?
Mostly, yes. It depends on your specific plan, but we’ll handle checking your benefits for you. If coverage is limited, we’re happy to offer flexible payment options to keep care simple and stress-free.
Does insurance cover Oral Devices for my Obstructive Sleep Apnea?
Mostly, yes. Many insurance plans cover part or all of our Medicare- and PDAC-approved oral devices. Each of our custom-made devices comes with a 3-year (or longer) warranty, so you can feel confident your treatment is reliable and built to last. We also provide regular follow-ups to ensure the devices are comfortable and effective, and to monitor the reduction of your apneic events (temporary pauses in breathing) and snoring.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a condition where your breathing repeatedly stops and starts while you sleep. The most common type, Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), happens when your throat muscles relax and block your airway. This prevents you from getting the deep, restful sleep you need.

Common signs include:
  • Loud snoring
  • Waking up gasping for air
  • Feeling tired during the day
  • Morning headaches
Why is it important to manage my Sleep Apnea?
Managing Sleep Apnea is vital for your health. When you stop breathing during the night, your body is starved of oxygen, putting a significant strain on your system.

Untreated Sleep Apnea can lead to serious problems, such as:
  • Heart Issues: An increased risk of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke.
  • Daytime Fatigue: Affects your focus, work performance, and increases your risk of accidents.
  • Mental Health Issues including depression, anxiety, and cognitive impairment.
  • Sexual Dysfunction: in both men and women.
  • Relationship Difficulties: OSA can disrupt sleep patterns for both the individual and their sleep partner, leading to relationship issues. This is often called a “sleep divorce” when the partner ends up sleeping in a different room.

  • By treating Sleep Apnea, you can improve your sleep, lower your health risks, and restore your energy for a healthier life.
What’s the difference between a CPAP and an Oral Device?
Both are effective for managing sleep apnea, but they work in fundamentally different ways.
    • CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure): Considered the “gold standard,” especially for moderate to severe cases. It’s a machine that uses a mask to deliver pressurized air, which acts as a splint to keep your airway open and prevent breathing pauses. A CPAP machine cannot function without a power source.
    • Oral Device (Oral Appliance): This custom-made mouthpiece holds your jaw and tongue slightly forward, widening your airway to prevent obstruction. It’s a common treatment for mild to moderate sleep apnea or for those who can’t use a CPAP.
How does an Oral Device for Obstructive Sleep Apnea work?
An oral device or oral appliance, is a custom-fitted mouthpiece worn during sleep. These are non-invasive and particularly well-suited for people with mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) or for those who can’t tolerate a CPAP machine. They are also highly preferred by travelers, campers, pilots, and truck drivers. This is a comfortable and effective device that manages your sleep apnea and reduces snoring and can be carried in your pocket or purse.
Do you offer at-home or nursing home care for my loved ones?
Yes, we do. We’ve recognized that a traditional clinic model doesn’t always serve a significant portion of the population well, especially those who lack mobility or transportation due to recent medical complications like a stroke or a major cardiac event. We are proud to bring our specialty care directly to patients who need it most, whether they are at home or in a nursing facility.

Routine care is a fundamental part of overall health, and early management of issues like orofacial pain, TMJ disorders, or Sleep Apnea is crucial. Our goal is to ensure your loved ones get the care they need to feel good, breathe better, and heal faster.
